All About Locs on the Journey

Hello Everyone, I’m Gwendolyn, and I’m excited to be able to share with you from a well of knowledge and experience of 25+ years as a Locticianist. And I love what I do.

Close your eyes and see it

I started braiding hair in the ’90s (yes the ’90s) and even before being professionally trained, I was taught to ‘plait’ or ‘cornrow’ by my granny when I was 9 years old. The best way that she could explain the technique of braiding to me was to tell me to ‘close my eyes, and see 3 legs’. Believe it or not, that’s what I did. I had no idea that that would be the foundation of the passion that I’d tapped into and that 45 years later I’d still be doing it.

Keep it moving!

My formal training was at D. Nutall Braid Academy in Memphis TN. in the late ’90s and several years later from Taliah Waajid in Atlanta GA., both of whom are powerful women with a passion to release and share their gifts so that those who desired to manipulate the hair in it’s rawest form could also use their own imagination to create beautiful art for others to wear.

In my 25+ years as a Braider/Locticianist I’ve SEEN a lot of heads and have helped many people wear work that made them feel better about themselves and leave them knowing that they could JOURNEY out comfortably expressing themselves.

My experience and passion for what I do have brought me to the place where I believe I have a ‘well’ of knowledge to share. People always ask me questions about what they should do about this or that, or what I think would look good on them or what will be good for their hair, and on and on.

And now what?

So in opening myself up in this way I know that many more people of all ages will be helped. While I love braiding and still braid well, my passion is for LOCKS. Ten years ago I had a dream and saw myself doing tiny micro-locks, when I awoke, I shared the dream with a friend, and she said “let’s do it”. Lace Locs was born. (needless to say, it took 3 days to complete because it was my first one, and all the manipulation was done with my fingers ONLY) I’ve spent a great deal of time perfecting my technique and have tremendous joy watching people wear my work on their crowns!

It is done when you believe it

This leads us to Locs on the JOURNEY! In my blog LOCS ON THE JOURNEY, I’ll share information through my blog, tutorials, pictures, product recommendations, including my own products, as well as answer all your questions about locks, and the locking process. Locks, like our lives, have their own individual journey and while each person goes through all of the stages of locking (which we’ll also discuss) no two people will have the same exact amount of locks nor do they look exactly alike, much like life huh? It’s all about you, the individual, the person under the hair, who will come to people such as myself, who can still close her eyes and see the full picture before the work even begins. I see it in my imagination! Imagination is a wonderful gift because I must first see it and then see it. You’ll catch that later, maybe. I’m still “turning what was into what is”.

In life, each individual has their own JOURNEY to walk out. I’m here, with you on LOCS ON THE JOURNEY!

Thanks for coming, PEACE
